The rotary encoder can be classified by the following ways.

1. According to the different ways of code wheel engraved

(1) Incremental encoder: a pulse signal is output every angle when rotaring(it is also available fore positive cosine signal.the signal is doubled or more to get a higher frequency pulse). It usually output the A phase, B phase , Z phase output, A-phase, B-phase pulse output mutual 1/4 cycle of the delay, the delay can be the difference between positive and negative relationship, and by taking the A-phase, B-phase rising and falling edges can be 2 or 4-fold ; Z-phase pulse as a single lap, that one pulse per revolution.

(2) Absolute encoder: is the corresponding circle, the angle of each benchmark issue a unique angle corresponds to the binary value, through an external device can record lap record and measure multiple locations.

2. Divided by the output signal type: voltage output, open collector output, a complementary push-pull output and line driver output.

3. The encoder mechanical mounting form

(1) a shaft type: a shaft type can be divided into clamping flange, servo flange type and servo mount type.

(2) hollow type: hollow type can be divided into the end hollow type, through hollow type and big hollow type.

4. By encoder working theory, it can be divided into: optic encoder, magnetic encoder and contact brush encoder.
